Chesterfield Town & Location
Flags Bed & Breakfast is situated only a few minutes walk from Chesterfield town centre. Newbold Road is the B6051 signed to (Barlow).
Chesterfield is the closest major town to the geographical centre of England. This makes it the perfect choice for a a base from which to explore this region and beyond. Chesterfield is Junction 30 when coming south on the M1 or 29 when coming north. Chesterfield is only a 30 minute drive from east midlands airport and just 45 minutes from Manchester airport (traffic dependant).
Famous for the crooked spire Chesterfield also boasts a great town centre with a unique mix of contempary shopping and cobbled streets. The shambles offers oldie world narrow stone streets and Tudor buildings. The spire attached to St Mary's and all saints church in the town centre can be seen for miles and is a wondrous site. It is said when a virgin marries in the church the spire will straighten. We live in hope but don't hold our breath... In actual fact the lead was laid over the wooden frame while the timber was still green and wet and over the years the weight has twisted and distorted the spire. As far as we know this the only example of this in the world and in my view is just as amazing as the leaning tower of Pizza.
Chesterfield is a market town by royal charter and is one of if not the largest open air market in England. Anually the town hosts & boasts a medevil market weekend with all manor of stalls & attractions devoted to historic times complete with stocks & ducking.
Flags B&B opened as a hotel in 1979 with 25 bedrooms, restaurant and public bar. In 2000 it's doors were closed and re-opened as a family run bed & breakfast. Flags has 7 bedrooms at the moment and is currently creating number 8. We have a large car park on the front and this is free to our residents.
